03/01/12: BGBlitz AI is available for iPhone and Android! Bitmap of Backgammon Gold There has been requests to port BGBlitz2go to iPhone/iPad or Android all the time. Due to a lack of time we always had to deny. But finally I extracted the Artificial Intelligence of BGBlitz and made it available as plugin.
The first company integrating the BGBlitz plugin is Mobivention . From now on you can get
Backgammon Gold for iPhone/iPad Bitmap of Appstore and Android Bitmap of Appstore to play against BGBlitz's strong AI. (Attention: the AI is only included in the paid version)

05/21/2011: BGBlitz2go 2.3.0 is online! The update is free, the old serial code should work.
What's new?

  • added support for the Jacoby rule
  • much better drawing performance, especially visible on Blackberrys
  • To improve the usability for devices with a full keyboard, all functions reachable through numerical keys are now reachable through alpha keys too. "e" is for evaluation, "b" for best moves, "p" for pipcount, "w" shows the history of winning probabilities and finally "r" shows the next three dice rolls
  • detect changes in the screen dimension and reinitializes accordingly. Useful for phones with automatic landscape/horizon change
  • the splash-screen can be closed with any key
  • fixed: in 2-player mode with touch screens White had to point to the opposing point
  • fixed: the Nackgammon setting was ignored during a match
  • fixed: with a rotated board the checkers were painted as eggs
  • fixed: Samsung Omnia 2 could not register
  • fixed: winning props didn't show after the last game in a match
Many thanks to all people providing error reports, made suggestions or gave feedback.

08/24/2009: BGBlitz2go 2.1.0 is online! The update is free, the old serial code should work.

  • Now you can play human against human, using bgblitz2go only as a board (to be configured at the playing strength).
  • in situation where BGBlitz2go needs 2 points to the win the match, the computer doubled too early. This problem is fixed.
  • An error showing the evaluation in endgames was fixed.
  • An error saving games/positions in WindowsMobile was fixed.
For unclear reasons, the update can't be used on devices with the Palm-OS. We are looking for a solution, but it seems to be difficult...
Many thanks to all people providing error reports, made suggestions or gave feedback.

04/18/2009: BGBlitz2go 2.0.0 is out! New functions and quite some polish. The update is free, the old serial code should work.

  • a FIBS-client is included, so you can play at FIBS on every opportunity. Depending on your phone/operator there might be additional configuration on your phone necessary or it might not work at all. Please check the costs your operator charges before using it. BGBlitz2go doesn't generate a lot of traffic, but the prices for data traffic differ vastly from free (Flat rate or WLAN) over reasonable to ridiculous expensive.
  • BGblitz2go got a new much stronger AI that is trained over 20 million games. The memory needed is raised moderately.
  • We added an "Extreme" level of play because a lot of devices nowadays are very capable. It uses 2-ply-evaluation, i.e. it not just looks at the current position but calculates the best responses to all following dice rolls. With the new "Mips" entry in the main menu, you can test how many positions BGblitz2go can evaluate on your phone in a second. Depending on your amount of patience you can try "Extreme" with values higher than 100. Values beyond 300 show nearly instantaneous moves. The 2-ply evaluation is also available in the "evaluation" and "best moves" dialog boxes. The "Extreme" levels playing strength is in the ballpark of human expert players, so don't complain we haven't warned you ;)
  • you can save positions in "pos"-format for later analysis
  • you can play the next game with the dice reversed, in the case you believe BGBlitz2go always gets the better dice. In case you want to try a different strategy you can also have the same dice.
  • reduced the playing strength in easier levels for casual players
  • improvements in usability
  • a couple of bugfixes, two of them serious
Many thanks to all people providing error reports, made suggestions or gave feedback.

11/01/2006: BGBlitz2go 1.0.1 is published finally. It is the collaborational effort of Markus Hervén from Sweden and Frank Berger from Germany.

  • The AI is a little sister of BGBlitz, the highly regarded AI that is used at Play65, GammonEmpire and Party Gammon. It is adapted to match the capabilities of current mobiles / cell phones.
  • Although a mobile phone is limited in the resources it provides, we could build a tutor into BGBlitz2Go.
  • Many dedicated Backgammon player asked immidiatly the question "can I save my games?". We heard that and implemented it (on phones fullfilling JSR75)
